Sarah Nunn: This fabric is from a shop in Agadir, Morocco where I traveled for a surgical mission with Operation Smile in May 2022. I believe our final surgical count was 101 patients, mostly cleft lip and cleft palates and all are recovered and doing well! After the surgical week wrapped up I had a couple of days to explore and one of the most interesting things I had the opportunity to do was to visit a local Arghan orchard. Arghan is a tree similar to an almond tree that only grows in this region of Morocco, nowhere else in the world. The nut is removed from the fruit and is used to make a wide array of cosmetic products as well as cooking oil and other consumables. The tree itself is very thorny and the fruit is difficult to harvest, so farmers have taken to letting their goats climb up into the trees and eat the fruit, dropping the seeds on the ground where they can be more easily collected. It doesn't seem possible to me for any animal with hooves to climb into the small upper branches of a tree but I saw it happen with my own eyes! The farmer also let me take a picture with one of the baby goats. It was a wonderful experience.
